for the sewer

got this idea from a magazine . Could be a pin cushion or use on the gift package to the sewer in your life. I made a few and put them in my studio for
christmas decor. this is one of them I made.
Here's the directions from the magazine article.

and the photos from the article, too.

These they attached to a gift bag. If you're a sewer like me, you'll have plenty of material scrap pieces for this project.

mitten snowman

it was hard to see that other picture so I toke this photo with a light background.
It's not a stocking , I made a mitten.

snowmen

painted this on a 3x7 wood slat and then drilled the holes and added wire to hang it from.
It could be used as an ornament ,too.

this snowman is painted on a felted wool stocking.
used a felted wool sweater and cut out the stocking then blanket stitched around it.
the wool is hard to paint on ,so I applied textured paint and then put some shading around the snowman.

Chickadees and Bluebird

Made the circles into ornaments the same as for the cardinal card.
I used blue and floated it on the edges of the circle.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
These birds were fun to paint, I'm sure I'll paint more.
Maybe paint some on wood and make tree ornaments. Oh, the possibilities!

cardinal ornament card

I made a change to this card by making the circle an ornament. And then attached a ribbon to hang it. What do you think about the changes made?
Also floating sky blue around the circle edges.

Cardinal/Holly

The cardinal is painted on a circle. I ruffed up the edges , then adhered to the white card.
Glazed the card with sky blue, and flicked on fawn with a old toothbrush.
Tied tulle and ribbon to the side of card.

The holly is outlined with a black pen. Paper torn edge and put red on the card edge.
I'm still working on those last two placemats, just wanted to shift gears and do some Christmas cards.
Thanks for stopping by.

painted placemat

I painted this looking out on the west side of our home in the woods. Deer frequently walk by the house, so I painted one sitting by the evergreen.
thanks for stopping by.
I have two more placemat paintings started, so stop back to check them out.

placemat painting

I tried my skills at a bigger canvas. Painted this fall scene from looking out my studio door at our frontyard. Sorry it's so dark, I need more light for taking pics.
Painted on the backside of a placmat I had, so I need to paint a protectant on the surface.

OUR BARN

I painted our barn, what fun !
It's so pretty here with the fall color.
I used burnt umber and white for the barn, and then burnt umber for shading.
Matted it on a rust , and then onto the brown card.
Thanks for stopping by.

butterfly card

To get this background I used white texture medium mixed with the green paint and applied it with a painting knife. Before it dried I scraped some lines through it. The texture medium takes a while to dry.
The flower and leaves are a stencil I made , I applied the texture medium over the stencil.
I painted the butterfly onto the card.
The image is sewed on with purple thread.
It makes for a heavy card with the texture medium so sewing it on works well, plus it gives the card that homemade touch.
Thanks for stopping by.

landscapes

It's been a long time since I got lost in painting. So that's what I did today.
Something different for me to paint, the wooded area. Used different colors in the sky, for a mix.
It was fun!
I blend the sky colors so it's a gradual change of hues, and not a harsh line.
I sewed the image to the card.
Hope to be posting soon again.
Thanks for stopping by.

zinnia

These are so pretty in my garden, just had to paint more of this flower, the zinnia.
I cut the image into a circle, mounting it on a red card, that I put dp on one edge and used the same dp for the strip under the gems. Gems always add a fun design element.
I like the flower with the red background it makes the flower pop.
I used red, light yellow and burnt sienna to paint the zinnia.

cosmos

These pretty pink cosmos I painted using magenta and white, the brush used was a filbert to get the nice rounded petals.
the foilage is thicket and fresh foilage greens.
Yellow light and school bus yellow are the centers.
Highlightiing the center with white and thicket.
It's mounted onto green cs
And then mounted on the handmade dp.
I just love the colors, so fresh and summery.

zinnia and marigold

The zinnia are painted with red and yellow. I used a zigzag stitch to mount to the card.

the marigold I used orange and yellow paint. I mounted them onto the card using eyelets
also using the eyelets for an accent on the card front.
Both these flowers are in bloom in my garden, so I have the subjects right outside my door.

a day spent painting

On this rainy day I spent my day painting in my studio. I'm working on shading and highlighting in my paintings. I used the same colors as the lilly of the previos post. Yellow light, white, yellow citron.
I have some daisies painted, I'll post them when I mount them onto cards.

Nick's First Communion

This is my brother Nick with Mom and Dad at his first communion back in June 1960.
I mounted it and put it in a shadow box frame and it now hangs on the wall in my studio.
Special memories!

my studio is complete!

Now for the fun part of creating!
Hope to be posting some art work soon!

lilacs

painted this lilac this winter.
It's not raining today so I'm working on the yard. Getting an area ready to transplant flowers from our hotbed.
We have some lilac bushes in our yard, so cleaned that area up and put some mulch around the bushes, there's some iris there too.
